Fred has collected some resources for developing web
pages and sites on the Internet. Most of these are
free or offer free things. Building a web page and
then adding pages until you have a site is a great
learning experience, a lot of fun, and a good way to
make new friends world-wide. If you decide to open a
web page or pages, go to GeoCities, Tripod,
or Angelfire (see links below) and follow
their instructions carefully! Fred will be offering
some tips in the future. But for now, here are some
very useful links, which, when taken together,
provide you with a "tool kit" for web page
development.

Denton's Graphics and Animations
- Denton has
been a great help to me in setting up my own pages
and has a great site for "jazzing up" web pages
generally, also a nice HTML (HyperText Markup
Language) tutorial.
- Destiny's Animated
Images
- Destiny has collected some tasteful
animated images which you can view here.
- IconBazaar
- An
excellent collection of graphic images available for
download and use on websites.
- Clip
Art
- More graphics, animations, backgrounds,
and a topnotch collection of links to web page
resources.
- The Clip
Art Connection
- Another good clip art resource.

GeoCities
- A great source for free home pages
and e-mail addresses, the host of Fred's
Place, offers 3 megabytes of disk space.

Tripod
- Another source for free home pages,
also very good, offers 2 megabytes of disk space.

Angelfire
- Free home pages as well, offers only
200 kilobytes of disk space, but has a very nice
basic home page builder for those who do not want to
learn HTML, and 200K is still a lot of space to fill.

Transload
- Offers "transload" service, will
load a file into their server then reload into your
server on your directory, great for WebTV users,
great for GeoCities (though "ftp.geocities.com"
should be used as opposed to "www.geocities.com").

Draac's Linkable Images and Music Clips.
- GIFs
and MIDIs for use on webpages created by WebTV users,
who can link directly to them without having to get
them downloaded into their directories! Use Draac's Quick Transport for fast navigation.
- Tinithlar's Images and Music
Clips
- Tinithlar's GIFs and MIDIs, linkable for
WebTV users and GeoCities members.
- GIFs To
Go
- GIFs and MIDIs that you can link to
directly, another great resource for WebTV users.
- Hyloth's
Mostly MIDIs Page
- MIDIs you can listen to or
download for use in webpages -- excellent collection.
- The HTML Writers
Guild
- Has excellent resources and tips.
- The
Compendium of HTML Elements
- Specifications for
commands.

CoolNerds HTML Reference
- Straightforward and
convenient, just look up the HTML command you need.
- Illustrated Index of Web
Colors
- A fantastic resource for colors and
working out color combinations.
- Color Maker
- Click on colors for
background color, text, link and visited link, then
see a sample page immediately.
- The
216 Color Cube Background Maker
- Click on the
square and the background of the entire page will
change to that color, giving a very good sense of the
effect of that background color.

- This site gives color values, but its
strong point is the accompanying text explaining the
use of colors and the meaning of the instructions
that bring colors to the web page.
- Website
Garage
- Excellent for checking HTML validity,
links, spelling, site popularity -- works fast.
- Inspector
Web
- Similar to above, good.
- Net
Mechanic
- Checks links and validates HTML code,
for either a single URL (page) or for the entire site
affiliated with the top URL, then e-mails the results
to you. Free and very, very good, a bit slower than
Website Garage (above) but clearer in some ways.
- EEE Link
Checker
- Verifies links for one page, reports
back on screen and quickly.
- Dr.
Watson
- Verifies links, checks HTML, free.
- Doctor
HTML
- Checks links, spelling of your actual
entered text, HMTL and does image analysis.
- WWW Page
Checker
- Nearly instant on-screen HTML
Validator, for single pages.
- Online
Banner Generator
- Create your own banner, for
the top of your pages or for banner advertisement
services such as Link Exchange (see below).
- Online
Banner Maker
- Create simple but very
serviceable banners easily online. Go to their banner maker with backgrounds if you want to select one their backgrounds rather than just specifying a background color.
- Cooltext
Online Logo Generator
- Simple online logo
maker, but must have a computer to download (using
"Save As" after right-clicking) as it does not offer
an image that can be "transloaded" (see above).
- 3D
Online Logo Generator
- Creates 3D logos online,
creates an image that can be transloaded, very nice,
limited font styles but free, so...
- GIF
Optimizer
- An online image optimizer, reduces
file size by progressively reducing the number of
colors used, you select the level that still looks
fine, also reduces physical size of image (which
reduces file size even further), very useful.
- ImageMagick
- Performs various image
manipulations, can be quite useful, can make an image
transparent, for example, as well as many other
effects.
- eXTReMe
Tracker
- Web site statistics tracking,
excellent, lots of info tracked about your visitors,
where they come from, keywords used, lots more,
unobtrusive icon.
- Web
Tracker
- Another tracker, quite good,
unobtrusive icon.
- ShowStat
- An excellent tracker, very unobtrusive icon, easy to
install, track individual pages with separate
accounts for each.
- InterCity
Direct Tracker
- Good tracker, place same
unobtrusive icon on one, some, or all pages.
- The
Counter
- Good, choice of unobtrusive icons,
good stats.
- icount
- A
good, very simple counter, choice of unobtrusive
icons, but only free if less than 300 hits per month.
- Rank
This
- Ranks specific URL's position on the
major search engines according to keywords you
specify.
- FREE-4-ALL!
- Links to free Internet
services.
- Add
Me!
- Submit your site all at once to about 34
search engines or directories, free.
- The Awards
Archive
- Big collection of awards offered on
the web, apply for them for your own site.
- Award
It!
- Submit your site all at once to about 147
Awards offered for web sites.
- Link
Exchange
- Banner advertising, free, your
banners are displayed on other participants' pages
and vice versa. Link Exchange also offers the LE Fast
Counter, a free counter you can easily install on your site to keep track of visitors. The banner at
the bottom of this page is a Link Exchange banner.
